Hello and welcome to my first blog on this site.
It's 7:40am on a Friday Morning and I have already been on the computer for more than one hour. I've been through one power failure already.
I've been doing some research on some new games for the PC (as that's the only platform I do play games in) and I hear Supreme Commander(release date 20th February 2007) is gaining some ground as a good RTS (Real Time Stratey for the Layman. Please read the Wikipedia Entry for Real Time Strategy to find out what that means) and well, some others (Specially Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars) are to be released as well in the near future.
The Real Time Strategy Genre has come a long way since its roots, and I am not going to emphasise on that too much. What I would like to emphasise, however, is the fact that there are far too many games out there which require hardware that costs far too much.
I recently bought a Geforce 7 Series video card, (only a 7300GT due to price constraints as I earn only a third world salary) and this is soon getting outdated. I guess I have to use that for 2 or 3 years, when I can finally afford an 8 Series (which will be a discard (pun unintentional) from a country where people will be buying the next generation of video cards (DirectX 11/12, anyone?).
Microsoft unveiled Windows Vista yesterday (February 15th) in Sri Lanka, and there was almost no interest among people to go out and actually buy an original. (Why buy an original when you can buy a copy for about US$2-3?). Anyway, the number of people who have Vista Capable computers is about 100 in the country and is expected to increase to a massive 200 before the end of the year.I hear more people have downloaded Vista Ultimate through Bittorrent than have actually bought it, although where I heard it from is a source of mystery specially to me.
I saw Duck Soup starring the Marx Brothers yesterday, and I recommend it for anyone who likes good comedy. This is the funniest movie I saw since Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
More on that in my next Blog Entry (if there is one)
I hear that it's almost 8:15 (and see it is so on the corner of my screen) and it's time for breakfast. Thanks for reading. Please comment (if that is possible).
